Let's state a few facts from what's been reported then I'll give my opinion.
As you’ve heard by now, Sia has tweeted support for singer FKA twigs following her sexual assault lawsuit against ex Shia LeBeouf, saying she too was “hurt emotionally” by the actor and was “conned” into an “adulterous relationship” with him. On Entertainment Online, The 34-year-old Transformers star has not responded to Sia's remarks, which she made on Twitter on Saturday, Dec. 11. This marks the first time either of them, who have worked together, have spoken about being in a relationship.
"I too have been hurt emotionally by Shia, a pathological liar, who conned me into an adulterous relationship claiming to be single," tweeted the notoriously private Sia, 44. "I believe he's very sick and has compassion for him AND his victims. Just know, if you love yourself- stay safe, stay away."
LaBeouf starred in the Australian singer's controversial music video "Elastic Heart" starring child performer Maddie Ziegler, in 2015, while he was in a relationship with Mia Goth, 27. Sia was married at the time to documentary filmmaker Erik Anders Lang. She filed for divorce in December 2016 after two years of marriage.
In my opinion, I do not have a problem when people who are in a marriage and are separating and/or in the process of divorce begin to date again, if they feel like they are ready and are upfront about it with whomever they get involved with. Sia explains that she was upset that Shia lied about him being single, but when you use the words “adultery” and “conned” I have to take a little exception to that.
Adultery
If you only go by the technical definition of adultery, voluntary sexual intercourse between a married person and a person who is not their spouse, then the only person who was able to commit it was Sia. I’m sure LeBeouf knew she was married. Again, if her relationship was ending and on the path to divorce then her being ready to date again is understandable. It’s the fact that in order to show support for FKA twig, Sia used a word as strong as adulterous knowing she was the only married person in the scenario.
By Definition
Sia says that LeBeouf lied about being single. If Sia calls all forms of cheating “adultery” and that’s just her typical word for it or if that’s what they commonly call it where she’s from, then I get it and agree. Then again, if Sia is using the word as it is defined speaking on her still being married then I don’t understand the use of the word “conned”. Sia knew she was married. A liar can lie about their status but if you know you’re married and about to proceed in a mental or physical relationship with someone outside of your marriage then you are the adulterer if you’re going by the textbook definition. This means she could not be conned into adultery. She only could be lied to and we are going under to possible assumption that either she uses the word adultery for all forms of cheating or was talking about her being married. She hasn't clarified which.
For Me: (In My Opinion)
It very understandable that Sia gave her support to FKA twig and what she means in her claims about Shia probably having a problem with the truth and needing help. I myself am not a perfect man who has cheated in a relationship when I was young and in the dating game. One thing I never did was lie about being single. It doesn’t make cheating right but I’ve never been accused of conning someone to cheat on their spouse or start something with me assuming I was completely available. Now before you get upset with me, that was a long time ago I was a young dumb ass. I’ve grown since.
The need to speak one's truth at a specific time is becoming common on social media. It can be to show support or to throw daggers. I can’t speak to motives, but I don’t believe it was necessary to use the terminology Sia did explain what she went through with LeBeouf. So I will translate to statement from “He conned me into an adulterous relationship claiming to be single” to “He knew I was getting out of a 2 year married, I was completely upfront with him about that and he lied to me about being completely single just to have sex”.
There is a difference between a con artist and a liar. LeBeouf could have been just like a lot of boneheaded guys trying to get laid or a person who falls in and out of emotional “entanglements” which would make him an Aquarius in some people's opinion. It doesn’t excuse anything that he did, if lying was the tactics he used then he’s a bonehead. You’re a rich, famous, good looking man in America, who cares if you’re in a relationship. To be honest, maybe Sia would have wanted an honest relationship on a physical or emotional level that was semi-casual. Lying about it just leads to what is going on right now. The drama will always find a way to surface and attract revelations from your past web of mischief. Why add on to that with unnecessary lies?
